Willamette Water Supply System

About the Project

In order to provide an additional, resilient water supply for Washington County, TVWD and the Cities of Hillsboro and Beaverton are developing the mid-Willamette River at Wilsonville as an additional water supply source.

The new Willamette Water Supply System, when operational in 2026, will provide a reliable water supply for the region by helping water system operators balance supply during times of drought or other supply interruptions, as well as recover more quickly after a large natural disaster. Planning and construction of this important water project is underway and includes a new water filtration plant, more than 30 miles of water pipelines, and water storage tanks—all built to modern seismic standards.

When complete, the WWSS will be one of Oregon’s most seismically-resilient water systems—built to better withstand natural disasters, protect public health, and speed regional economic recovery through restoring critical services more quickly.

The Willamette Water Supply System Commission (WWSS Commission) is an Oregon intergovernmental entity formed by Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), the City of Hillsboro, and the City of Beaverton.

The Service Line Inventory project is part of TVWD’s ongoing work to provide safe, reliable drinking water. The project confirmed there are no lead service lines in our system. With this proactive effort, TVWD met new federal requirements well ahead of the October 2024 deadline. Identifying lead service lines and replacing them, if found, is important to protecting public health.
